This page shows images of Nordhausen trams and the
diesel/electric Combino Duo trams which run onto the
Harzquerbahn (HSB) to Ilfeld.
Other pages on the Harzquerbahn are linked below.
Nordhausen is a small town on the edge of the Harz
Mountains which has a small metre-gauge tramway system. It is
also a terminus of the Harzquerbahn which runs a railcar which
runs into the Bahnhofsplatz. They also have two diesel/electric
Combino Duo trams which run as electric trams in the town and
under diesel power on the HSB.

The Nordhausen tramway network (German:
Straßenbahnnetz Nordhausen) is a network of tramways forming part of the
public transport system in Nordhausen, a city in the federal state of
Thuringia, Germany. Opened in 1900, the network is currently operated by
Stadtwerke Nordhausen, and has three lines, including one linking Nordhausen
with nearby Ilfeld using diesel vehicles.

The older Nordhausen 2-axle trams were replaced by
Gotha 2-axle and articulated trams, one new (No.40) and others second-hand
from other DDR operators.
2-axle Nordhausen Gotha T57 tram No.43
Motor wagon no 43 actually survives as a historical
triebwagen in Nordhausen, though renumbered 40.
This vehicle was new in 1958 as Gera no 143, but acquired by Nordhausen in
1969, one of 7 such vehicles acquired from this source.
In total 9 of these double ended Gotha cars were operated. All except this
one were scrapped by 1995.
The end of Gotha operation in Nordhausen was on 31 Jan 1992 on this route,
Linie 2: Arnoldstraße - Parkallee.

2-axle Nordhausen Gotha tram No.46 to Altentor, Arnoldplatz in August 1989
These single cars were double ended, and could
operated without a turning circle.
This T57 Gotha car from 1959 arrived in Nordhausen from Gera. Unfortunately,
No 46 did not survive.
It was withdrawn in 1992 and spent some time as a school bistro before being
scrapped.
