Riga Trams - Latvia - Simplon Postcards

This page is devoted to postcards and photographs of Riga trams.

Riga has had trams since 1882 and currently has a network of eleven routes (some are short workings) and 153 km. The 2007 tram fleet consists of Tatra T3SU and KT6B5SU bogie trams which run in pairs. Power is collected by a trolley pole on the leading vehicle, with a power cable connecting to the second tram. 243 T3SU trams (known locally just as T3) were delivered between 1974-1987. These were followed by 62 KT6B5SU trams (201-262) from 1988 (known locally as T3M). I also photographed T3M cars in the 500 series, but do not know their origin. The operator's future plans include the provision of another 30 refurbished T3M trams, but it is not clear if these are being acquired from elsewhere. The gauge of Tallinn's tracks is 1524mm (standard gauge being 1435mm) and they have 61.5km of route.
