This page shows images of Metro Málaga in Andalucía which opened in July 2014 after a protracted construction period. The first new tramway in Andalucía had been opened on October 11th 2006 at Velez-Málaga, located about 30 km east of Málaga on the Costa del Sol in Andalucía. This system was something of a vanity project by the local mayor and it closed on 31st December 2012, the first new Spanish tramway to close.

Metro Málaga was originally intended to open in 2009 but did not actually start running until 30th July 2014, with two routes starting from El Perchel by the main RENFE station in Málaga. Line L1 runs to Andalucía Tech and line L2 Palacio de los Deportes. L2 is all underground whilst L1 runs on the surface from Universidad.

Metro Málaga - 2014-

Construction began on Metro Málaga, Andalucía, a system similar to the one operating in Sevilla was built. This light rail system uses low-floor trams (CAF Urbos 3) and comprises two lines radiating from the city centre towards the western suburbs, running mostly underground. Its initial length is 12 km with 17 stations, five of which are modern surface tram stops. Construction had started in autumn 2005.

Andalucía Tech

Andalucía Tech was the terminus of Line1 at the metro's opening in July 2014. It is situated in an area which probably would have been developed if not for the market crash and Spain's subsequent economic problems. It is currently little more than a desert.
