Barcelona Trambesòs Trams - Barcelona TRAM

This page is devoted to postcards and photographs of the new Barcelona Trambesòs tramway, opened May 2004. There is a second Barcelona tramway Trambaix with lines T1-T3, which opened at the same time.

The second part of the Barcelona tram system, known as Trambesòs, opened on 8th May 2004 between Plaça de les Glòries Catalanes and Estació de Sant Adrià as route T4. The route was extended south to Wellington and Ciutadella/Vila Olimpica on 14th July 2004, and route T5 was initiated between Glòries and Besòs on 14th October 2006, extended to Gorg in 2007. A new link between the routes is being built via La Mina, and once this is opened a new route T6 will run from Gorg to St.Adrià de Besòs, whilst both T4 and T5 will then run through to Ciutadella/Vila Olimpica (T5 currently stopping short at Glòries).



Tram details:- 20 Alstom Citadis trams, numbered 01-20, operate the services. Their details are:- Total capacity: 218 people (72 seated). Rolling stock (number of units): 20 trams. Commercial speed: 20 km/h Maximum speed: 70 km/h Speed in the city: 50 km/h Vehicle length 33 m. Outside width of 2.65 m. Single-decker tram (30 cm over the rail), Alstom Citadis 302 model, modular composition, bidirectional, with doors on both sides and two driving cabins.
Route details:- Line T4:- Ciutadella/Vila Olimpica to Estació de Sant Adrià. Length 6.4 km Line T5:- Glòries to Gorg (to be extended Ciutadella/Vila Olimpica to Gorg) Line T6:- Ciutadella/Vila Olimpica to Gorg via La Mina (under construction)

We visited Barcelona on 18th March 2008 on Costa Europa. We only had a half day and so took a taxi from the ship to Gorg, the eastern T5 terminus. We then travelled to Glòries, the current western terminus of T5, where it connects with T4. We continued to Estació de Sant Adrià, the eastern terminus of T4, and back to Ciutadella/Vila Olimpica, thereby covering the complete Trambesòs system, but with no time to take images at intermediate stops.
