in March 2011 to Vigo, Lisbon and the Atlantic Isles. We travelled in

the Royal Promenade. This page covers the visit to Santa Cruz de Tenerife in
the Canary Islands.

Our third port was to Santa Cruz de Tenerife in the Canary Islands. We were
this last cruise ship to arrive that morning and MSC Fantasia, Costa
Fortuna, Insignia and Prinsendam were already berthed.
We walked into the town and caught the new tramway (although they call it a
metro) to the terminus at La Trinidad. the system has two routes. Route 1 is
the main route of 21 stops that runs from the sea front at Intercambiador
(by the main bus station), through the city centre and up the valley to La
Trinidad in San Cristobel de La Laguna. Route 2 runs across Route 1 is a
short route of 6 stops between Tincer and La Cuesta. It shares two stops El
Cardonal and Hospital Universitario with Route 1. services are run by a
fleet of Alstom Citadis trams and the whole system has a similar feel to
that of Nice. La Trinidad was not the most salubrious part of a mainly very
prosperous city, so we headed back down to Museo de la Ciencia where, as the
name states, there is a science museum. After a brief visit we continued to
Hospital Universitario from where we visited both branches to La Cuesta and
Tincer, before heading back into the city.
I spent the afternoon on the ship photographing the ARMAS and Fred.Olsen
ferries and the departures of all the other cruise ships before our own
departure.
