Our fourth port of call was Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. We visited the
Science & Technology Museum and the small Naval Museum which requires
entering the naval base and signing in, showing passports, with the military
police.

Lagaren is an iron-hulled vessel built as a
lightship in 1895. She was constructed as the Svinbådan No 17 by W.
Lindbergs Verkstads och Varfs AB (Södra Varvet), Sweden, as their hull no:
21. She was later rebuilt as an auxiliary sailing vessel for use as a
training ship and for charters and had been owned by a Swedish organisation
for 33 years, based in Stockholm) before a recent sale. Now flying the US
flag, one wonders if she was trying to sail back to the USA, Gran Canaria
already being a long voyage from Stockholm.
