Queen Victoria Cruise Voyage V913: Mediterranean Medley II - 17th-30th August 2009 Day 12: 28th August - Sea Day |
||
This is the record of a 13 night cruise taken on
board Cunard's Queen Victoria from Southampton on 17th August 2009. This page covers
a sea day on Friday 28th August.
The fourth full sea day started cloudy as Queen Victoria ploughed through a northerly force 7 moderate gale along the Portuguese coast. Aurora, which had left Gibraltar an hour before us, was visible off the port bow. We steadily overhauled her, and our usual sunshine had returned by the time we caught up, and steadily overtook, the P&O ship, a feat which gave the Captain some pleasure at the World Club Cocktail Party that night. He also said that the wind had increased to force 9, but this may have been a relative figure including the ship's speed. Both Aurora and Queen Victoria were handling the weather extremely well, with little pitching or rolling. The motion did become a little more lively for a period around 3am the following morning, but this may have been due to the change of direction into Biscay. I sometimes suspect that stabilisers are withdrawn at night to increase efficiency. There was a sale of old QE2 material in the afternoon, and Lembit Opik MP was just ahead of us in the queue with his new friend. I did not see what he bought, but there was nothing of interest to me that I did not already have. A good supply of the hideous brick-shaped QE2 teapots is still available. The evening show was called Victoriana, a lively revue of British music hall. |
