Southampton
(Saturday 25th October)
Whilst Southampton used to be a major ferry port with services to France and Spain, the only ferries using Southampton now are the local ferry across the Solent to Hythe, and the
Red Funnel Ferries
to the Isle of Wight. Just delivered was the new acquisition
Bergen Castle
, used to maintain a three-ship service whilst
Red Falcon
and
Red Osprey
were being lengthened in Poland between October 2003-March 2004. She was previously the 1975-built
Nordhordland
of Norwegian operator HSD. A complete history of this ship is available
on this link

As we left Southampton, we passed
Cunard
's
Caronia
and
Queen Elizabeth 2
, both preparing to sail. Like
Oriana
, these ships are now part of the Carnival group.
