This page is one of a series showing images from a 10
night 'Christmas Markets' cruise from Southampton in December 2012.
We were dues to leave Amsterdam at 22:00hrs on the 6th December. We were
still at the Amsterdam Cruise Terminal berth when we awoke on 7th - the
Amsterdam pilots again considered it to be too windy to pass Centraal
Station or to enter the Ijmuiden locks. We left around lunch time and left
the lock around 15:00. We had been scheduled to arrive in Copenhagen at 8am
on the 8th December, but leaving 14 hours late meant that instead we had a
day at sea in sunny but freezing conditions, doing over 22 knots.
We overtook various freighters and the Norröna of Smyril Line,
arriving at Copenhagen at around 16:00hrs, losing one of our two days in
that port.

Lokalbanen A/S ('Local Railway', abbreviated LB) is a
Danish company responsible for train operation and related passenger
services on various railways around Copenhagen. Owned by the Greater
Copenhagen Authority (HUR), Lokalbanen was established in 2001 following
HUR's acquisition of the share of the railway lines previously owned by the
Danish state. The company headquarters are located in Hillerød; the company
has offices in various stations on the lines it operates.
Lokalbanen operates on the lines formerly controlled by Frederiksværkbanen
(HFHJ), Gribskovbanen (GDS), Hornbækbanen (HHGB) and Nærumbanen (LNJ), from
which it took over operation in May 2002. All companies were subsequently
closed. Ownership of the trains and infrastructure from the companies is now
the responsibility of Hovedstadens Lokalbaner (HL), from which Lokalbanen
leases its trains; all HL lines have so far been run by LB, with the
exception of the Lille Nord line run by DSB S-tog on behalf of HUR.

The Hornbækbanen combines the previous
Helsingør-Hornbæk-Gilleleje Banen (HHGB) and Gribskovbanen from Gilleleje to
Hillerød, plus a branch from Kagerup to Tisvildeleje

The Lille Nord provides a direct
Helsingør-Hillerød route, previously operated by DSB using similar Y-Tog
Lynette sets as the other Danish local lines.

Lokalbanen - Nærumbanen
(LNJ)
The Nærumbanen runs from Jægersborg, adjacent to the
S-Tog station of DSB, to Nærum. A frequent service is provided by two
lightweight tram/train DMUs along this short single line branch with a
passing place at Fuglevad. The complete journey takes just 13mins with five
intermediate request stops - the trains have tram-style bell pushes to stop
the train.
