Lokalbanen
North Sjælland - Denmark
Lokalbanen - Hornbækbanenex-Helsingør-Hornbæk-Gilleleje
Banen (HHGB)
The nominally independent local lines of North Sjælland are
now marketed under the Lokalbanen banner. The
Helsingør-Hornbæk-Gilleleje Banen (HHGB) is now the Lokalbanen -
Hornbækbanen and trains run through onto the original
Gribskovbanen from Gilleleje to Hillerød. At Helsingør, the HHGB
used to stop in the street outside Helsingør station, but has
now been extended to run alongside a platform in the station
proper. The trains still run between the road and quayside for a
few hundred metres.
The new LINT sets run every 30 minutes between 06:00 and
19:00 Mon-Fri and hourly at other times. None of the towns the
route passes through are particularly large and there are many
bigger places in the UK where the service and smart
air-conditioned trains would be envied. Trains take about 45
minutes between Helsingør and Gilleleje, plus a further 30 onto
Hillerød. I travelled just to Hornbæk (30mins), an attractive
small town, but presumably the largest on the route since it is
now known as the Hornbækbanen.
HHGB -
Y-Tog Lynette DMUs
'Lynette' Y-Tog DMU sets ran the services on these lines for
around 40 years, but have been displaced by 27 Alstom LINT 2-car
DMUs (covering all lines, not just the Hornbækbanen). The HHGB
Y-Togs consisted of Uerdingen single unit Ym-53 and twin sets
Ym51/Ym91, Ym52/Ym92 and Ym54/Ys94 built 1970-73, plus
Düwag/Skandia twin-sets Ym55/Ys95 and Ym56/Ys96 built in
1983/84. The two Düwag sets were undergoing maintenance at the
shed at Helsingør-Grønnehave on my 2007 visit. On my first 1975
visit the single unit Ym53 was running with a driving trailer.

Lokalbanen - Gribskovbanen
Lokalbanen -
Frederiksværkbanen
ex-GDS & HFHJ
The Gribskovbanen
(GDS) ran from Hillerød to Gilleleje & Hillerød to
Tisvildeleje. 'Lynettes' carried dual ownership markings with
the (Hillerød to Hundested - HFHJ).
Now part of the Lokalbanen network as Lokalbanen-Gribskovbanen it now uses Alstom LINT 2-car DMUs.
Trains run through from Hillerød to Helsingør on both
ex-GDS & HHGB tracks.
The
Hillerød-Frederiksværk-Hundested Jernbane (HFHJ) shared
'Lynettes' with the Gribskovbanen
Now part of the Lokalbanen
network as Lokalbanen-Frederiksværkbanen,
they now use Alstom LINT 2-car DMUs.
The first Y-Tog 'Lynettes' were 3-car sets
with six power cars Ym1-Ym6 each matched to a trailer and a
driving trailer, built in 1965 by Uerdingen. These were followed
by five further 3-Car sets with power cars Ym7-Ym11. All were
classed as GDS/HFHJ.
GDS
- Skinnebusserne Railcars
The distinctive Skinnebusser railcars
were delivered to most Danish private railways from just after
WW2. On my visit to Gilleleje in 1979, two remained in stock, S1
and Sm5. S1 was delivered to the GDS in 1947 and Sm5 built 1952
as Sm2 on the Langelandsbanen. It moved to the GDS in 1962 and
renumbered Sm5. S1 did not look as if it had moved for a while.
The Skinnebusserne railcars were built by Scandia and had
Leyland 6-cylinder diesel engines.

Lokalbanen - Lille Nord
(ex-Helsingør-Hillerød
Banen)
The Helsingør-Hillerød
Banen (HHB) was previously operated by DSB from the station at
Helsingør. DSB had seven Düwag/Skandia twin-sets
built in 1984. These 'Lynettes' were classed as ML/MS by DSB.
Now part of the Lokalbanen network as Lokalbanen-Lille Nord,
the now use Alstom LINT 2-car DMUs.
