Lokalbanen - Hornbækbanen(ex-Helsingør-Hornbæk-Gilleleje
Banen & Gribskovbanen)
The nominally independent
local lines of North Sjælland are now marketed under the
Lokalbanen banner. The Helsingør-Hornbæk-Gilleleje
Banen (HHGB) is now the Lokalbanen - Hornbækbanen and trains run through
onto the original Gribskovbanen from Gilleleje to Hillerød. At Helsingør,
the HHGB used to stop in the street outside Helsingør
station, but has now been extended to run alongside a platform
in the station proper. The trains still run between the road
and quayside for a few hundred metres. The 'Lynette' Y-Tog DMU sets which
have run the services on these lines for the last 40 years have
been displaced by 27 Alstom LINT 2-car DMUs (covering all lines, not just the
Hornbækbanen. The HHGB Y-Togs
consisted of Uerdingen single unit Ym-53 and twin sets Ym51/Ym91,
Ym52/Ym92 and Ym54/Ys94 built 1970-73, plus Düwag/Skandia
twin-sets Ym55/Ys95 and Ym56/Ys96 built in 1983/84. The two Düwag
sets were undergoing maintenance at the shed at Helsingør-Grønnehave
on my visit.
The new LINT sets run every 30 minutes between 06:00 and
19:00 Mon-Fri and hourly at other times. None of the towns the
route passes through are particularly large and there are many
bigger places in the UK where the service and smart
air-conditioned trains would be envied. Trains take about 45
minutes between Helsingør and Gilleleje, plus a further 30 onto
Hillerød. I travelled just to Hornbæk (30mins), an attractive
small town, but presumably the largest on the route since it is
now known as the Hornbækbanen.

Trains also
pass at Grønnehave and the narrow platform is quite
claustrophobic

Lokalbanen - Lille Nord
(ex-Helsingør-Hillerød
Banen)
The Helsingør-Hillerød
Banen (HHB) was previously operated by DSB from the station at
Helsingør. DSB had seven Düwag/Skandia twin-sets
built in 1984. These 'Lynettes' were classed as ML/MS by DSB.
Now part of the Lokalbanen network as Lokalbanen-Lille Nord,
they also use Alstom LINT 2-car DMUs.
