Jakob Lines was established in July 1969. The first ship was ex-Kattegatt, renamed Nordek. Maiden voyage as Nordek, was from Jakobstad to Umeå on the 16th September 1969. The ship was sold in December 1972. The Bore company was a major stockholder in Jakob lines, until 1976. The second Jakob lines ship was Bore II, built in 1953 as Aallotar for FÅA. She made her first voyage for Jakob Lines in October 1971 and last in January 1972. The third Jakob Lines ship was Bore III. She was used for Jakobstad-Umeå, and Jakobstad-Skellefteå, from April to September 1972.
The fourth Jakob Lines ship Birger Jarl was bought in 1973, renamed Bore Nord. The ship was later chartered to Bore company 1974-1976. The ship was used the summer of 1977 on Jakob Lines routes and sold later on. While Bore Nord was chartered to Bore Line, Jakob Lines chartered Wasa Express (ex-Prinsessan Margaretha) from Vaasa-Umeå between 1974-1975. Wasa Express was given a marketing name Nord Express. She was the fifth ship sailing for Jakob Lines. The next ship in Jakob Lines service was Polar Express. She was bought from Vaasanlaivat/Vasabåtarna in 1982. She kept her old name, and was used until 1984. She was sold to Kuwait. Jakob Lines bought the Fennia from Silja Line 1984. She made her maiden voyage for Jakob Lines in May 1984. Fennia was used on Jakobstad-Övik during the summer. She was sold to Vaasanlaivat/Vasabåtarna in December 1985. Fennia returned to the Jakob Lines route between 1992-99 - she was the last ship to serve on the route. By this time Jakob Lines had been acquired by Vaasanlaivat/Vasabåtarna who in turn were part of Silja Line, and Fennia then ran in the colours of these companies.

Jakob Lines Fleet List
 
 
Nordek (1969-1972)
 
Jakob Lines was established in July 1969. The first ship was ex-Kattegatt, renamed Nordek. The ship was built in 1961, and was able to carry 1100pass, 120 cars or 12 lorries. Her maiden voyage as Nordek was from Jakobstad to Umeå on the 16th September 1969. Nordek was sold in December 1972, and renamed Corsica Star for Corsica Ferries.

Bore II (1971-72)
 
The Bore company was a major stockholder in Jakob lines, until 1976. The second Jakob lines ship was Bore II, built in 1953 as Aallotar for FÅA. She made her first voyage for Jakob Lines in October 1971 and last in January 1972.

Bore III (1972)
 
The third Jakob Lines ship was Bore III. She was used for Jakobstad-Umeå, and Jakobstad-Skellefteå, from April to September 1972.

Bore Nord (1973-77)
 
The fourth Jakob Lines ship Birger Jarl was bought in 1973, renamed Bore Nord. The ship was later chartered to Bore company 1974-1976. The ship was used the summer of 1977 on Jakob Lines routes and sold later on. While Bore Nord was chartered to Bore, Jakob Lines chartered Wasa Express (ex-Prinsessan Margaretha) from Vaasa-Umeå between 1974-1975.

While Bore Nord was chartered to Bore, Jakob Lines chatered Wasa Express (ex-Prinsessan Margaretha) from Vaasa-Umeå between 1974-1975. The ship was sold in august 1975 to Egypt and renamed Al Anoud. Wasa Express was given a marketing name Nord Express. She was the fifth ship sailing for Jakob Lines.

Borea (1978-1983)
 
In 1976 the Jakob Lines traffic was maintened by Bore Nord. Bore Nord was sold in the end of 1977 and a new ship was bought. Jakob Lines bought the Bore, from the Bore company. The ship was renamed Borea. Borea was used on Jakob Lines own route Jakobstad-Skellefteå until 1982. She was then chartered to Algeria and sold 1984 to Helsingfors steamship company (Nielsen). She remains in service as Baltic Kristina with Kristina Cruises who have operated her since 1987.

Polar Express (1982-1984)
 
The next ship in Jakob Lines service was Polar Express. She was bought from Vaasanlaivat/Vasabåtarna in 1982. She kept her old name, and was used until 1984. She was sold to Kuwait.

Fennia (1983-85, 1992-99)
 
Jakob Lines bought the Fennia from Silja Line 1984. She made her maiden voyage for Jakob Lines in May 1984. Fennia was used on Jakobstad-Övik during the summer. She was sold to Vaasanlaivat/Vasabåtarna in December 1985. Fennia returned to the Jakob Lines route between 1992-99 - she was the last ship to serve on the route. By this time Jakob Lines had been acquired by Vaasanlaivat/Vasabåtarna who in turn were part of Silja Line, and Fennia then ran in the colours of these companies.

Fenno Express (1985-1989)
 
Fenno Express bought from Vasabåtarna in January 1986. She kept her old name and was sold to Vietnam 1989. Fenno Express had been built in 1965 by Aalborg Skipsvaerft A/S, Ålborg, as the Prinsessan Desirée of Göteborg-Frederikshavn Linjen (Sessan Line). In 1970, Prinsessan Desirée was sold to Oy Vasa-Umeå Ab as the Fenno Express. In 1985 Fenno Express was sold to Oy Jakob Lines Ab, but was sold again in 1989 for service in the Far East. In 1996 she returned to the Mediterranean for further service.

Botnia Express (1989-1991)
Polar Princess (1989-1991)
 
In 1989 Vasabåtarna became a major owner of Jakob Lines. The next ship to be used was Botnia Express in spring and autumm 1990 and 1991. She was marketed as Polar Princess. There was no postcard issued of her during that time. In the summer 1990 and 1991, Fenno Star was used in Jakob Lines traffic.

Fenno Star (1990-1991)
 
In the summer 1990 and 1991, Fenno Star was used in Jakob Lines traffic. Fenno Star was built as the Viking III in 1965 by Orenstein-Koppel und Lübecker Mach A/G, Lübeck, for Otto Thoresen for service between Southampton to Cherbourg/Le Havre. During the winter of 1965, Viking III was chartered to Atlantic Steam Navigation for services from Tilbury to Rotterdam and Antwerp. In 1968, Thoresen merged with Townsend to form Townsend Thoresen Car Ferries. Viking III worked regular charters for other companies such as Lion Ferry , Fred Olsen, Larvik Lines, Sealink and Stena Line etc.
 
In 1982 Viking III was sold to Da-No Linjen for service between Frederikstad-Frederikshavn as the Terje Vigen. She passed through various other Scandinavian owners as Scandinavia until spending 1990/91 with Vasabåtarna and Jakob Lines as Fenno Star. In 1992, Fenno Star was sold to Scandi Lines as the Sandefjord, running between Sandefjord-Strömstad. Scandi Line became part of Larvik Line in 1994, and then Color Line in 1999. In 2003 she was sold to Saga Linie and adopted the name Sagafjord for a service Moss-Skagen, although the service did not run during summer 2003.
