Calibur was built in 1976 by Trosvik Verksted A/S Brevik as Seaspeed Dana for the Seaspeed Ferry Co. She was initially chartered to Fred Olsen Seaspeed Ferries, Piraeus for a service linking Felixstowe - Rotterdam - Beirut - Tartus - Damma - Jeddah. Further charters followed to Roto Line, Tor Line and
North Sea Ferries
. She was sold to Stena Line in 1982 and later renamed
Stena Mariner
. She was bought by current Owners Kalingrad Key Line in 1997, managed by V Ships, and took further charters with Helsingborg-Lübeck Line Ab, Cotunav,
DFDS Tor Line
and
Color Line
before an extended spell with
Ferryways
. running on routes to Killingholme and Immingham from Ostend. Following the takeover of
Ferryways
by
Cobelfret
, she was chartered by P&O to start a new Tilbury-Zeebrugge service, using the ramp slots previously used by
Ferryways
.

Puma
for P&O in 1979 by Mitsui Engineering and Shipbuilding, Japan, but entered service as
Tipperary
on charter with
B&I Line
between Dublin and Liverpool. In 1988 she passed to
North Sea Ferries
for their Ipswich-Europoort service, later moving to Hull-Zeebrugge. Following the withdrawal of the
Ferryways
service from Tilbury to Ostend on their takeover by
Cobelfret
, P&O introduced a new Tilbury-Zeebrugge route. Initially served by the
Calibur
and
Hoburgen
, the latter was replaced by
Norcape
in May 2008.
