Hurtigruten - Norwegian Coastal Express

 

 

This page is devoted to postcards and photographs of the Norwegian Coastal Express (Hurtigruten) vessel Narvik of 1982.

 

Narvik was built in 1982 by Trondhjems MV, Aker Trondelag, Trondheim, for ODS (Ofotens Dampskipsselskap), but has operated with OVDS (Ofotens & Vesterålens Dampskipsselskap) since the merger of the the two companies in 1988. As built in 1988, she had an open cargo deck aft. This was replaced with additional accommodation in 1988, rather spoiling her appearance. She originally had 166 berths only, increased to 306 after rebuilding, and tonnage increased from 4072gt to 6257gt.

 

The Hurtigruten does a day trip from Ålesund to Geiranger on all summer northbound passages from Bergen to Kirkenes. Any passenger transfers at Geiranger are done with the local excursion vessel Geirangerfjord acting as a tender. There is a sequence of photos of Narvik in the Geirangerfjord from August 2005.
