This is one of a series devoted to postcards and photographs of the Norwegian Coastal Express (Hurtigruten). This page covers the second generation of post-war motorships built in the 1950s, the last of which, Nordstjernen, remains in service as a reserve ship in 2005.

Although built as a small cruise ship, Meteor occasionally worked on the Hurtigruten.

64: Nordstjernen (2)

BDS/TFDS: 1956-1994

 

Nordstjernen (2) (North Star) is the TFDS extra ship. She operates cruises to Svalbard (Spitzbergen) in the summer season and in the coastal express some time in the winter. She was built in 1956 and was on the coastal express service from 1956-1994. Nordstjernen (2) was owned initially by BDS (Bergen Damspskipsselskap), built to replace the Nordstjernen (1) which was lost in 1954.
