1911 Timetable

This timetable is taken from the 14th Edition (1911) of the Salter's Guide to the Thames. This is a detailed guide not only to the Thames but also many other navigable rivers and canals in the south of England, including the Rivers Severn and Avon. Salters pay surprisingly little attention to their own boats, but the PDF file below collects a few pages from the guide which relate to boat services, including some very fine adverts for steam launch builders.

In 1911 it was possible to travel from Oxford to Kingston in two days, with a night in Henley. In 2010 it is possible to leave Oxford on a Monday and reach Staines on Friday, with nights in Wallingford, Reading, Henley and Marlow. The return trip is also possible starting on a Monday, staying overnight in Marlow, Henley, Reading and Wallingford. Because some sections  are not run daily, starting on other days of the week results in even longer durations.

1948 Timetable

This is a small double-sided timetable for Summer 1948 with a selection of trips from Oxford on the reverse side. At this time it was still possible to travel from Oxford to Kingston in two days, with a night in Henley. The schedules are remarkably similar, with a few tweaks of no more than 10 minutes having been applied in the 37 years since the 1911 timetable shown above.

1956 Timetable

This is a small double-sided timetable for Summer 1956.  By this time it took three days to travel from Oxford to Kingston, with nights in Reading and Windsor.
