Sally UK Fleet List

The Viking (1)
(Sally UK: 1981-83)

Viking 5 was the sixth and last of the Meyer-built Papenburg sisters, delivered to Viking Line partner Sally in 1974, for the Stockholm-Helsinki route. From 1981-83 she was used by Sally on their ramsgate-Dunkerque route as The Viking, then from 1983-84 as the Sally Express of Vaasanlaivat. In 1984 she was sold to Fred Olsen, and served as the Bolette until 1988, when she became the Boughaz of COMMARIT, a Fred Olsen subsidiary.

Viking 6
Sun Express
(Sally UK: 1982, 1985-86)

Viking 6 was built as the Stena Line vessel Stena Britannica in 1967. Her career with Stena was short, and between 1968-74 she served in Alaska as the Wickersham. Rederi AB Sally bought her in 1974, and renamed her the Viking 6. She was used on the Stockholm-Helsinki route. Between 1980-82 she was chartered to Brittany Ferries as Goelo. She returned to Sally operation in 1982, when as Viking 6 again, she served between Ramsgate and Dunkerque, after a brief charter to North Sea Ferries. In December 1982, Viking 6 was sold to Cypriot-based Sol Lines (Takis Solomondis of Limassol) for a route between Venice and Haifa as Sol Olympia. This company failed in 1985, and the ship reverted to Rederi AB Sally ownership, initially as Sun Express, and later as Viking 6 again. She served with Moby Lines until 2001, when sold for scrap.

Viking 3
(Sally UK: 1983-84)

Viking 3 was the third of the six Papenburg sisters, delivered to Viking Line partner Sally in 1970, for the Kapellskär-Mariehamn-Naantali route. She was transferred to another Sally company, Vaasanlaivat/Vasabåtarna, as the Wasa Express between 1976-83, and again from 1984-88. In 1983-84 she returned to her original name of Viking 3 for Ramsgate-Dunkerque service with Sally Line (UK). During this period, Viking 1 took her place with Vaasanlaivat/Vasabåtarna as Wasa Express. In 1988 she was sold to Eckerö Line and served as the Roslagen.

The Viking (2)
(Sally UK: 1983-89)

Kalle III was a sistership to Djursland II, built in 1974 by Schichau Unterweser AG, Bremerhaven, Germany. It had originally been intended that she serve on the Grenå-Hundested route as Kattegat II, but was moved to Juelsminde-Kalundborg as Kalle III from delivery. Between 1983-89 she was chartered to Sally UK for Ramsgate-Dunkerque service as The Viking. Between 1989-91 she ran for Vaasanlaivat as the Wasa Prince. From 1991 to 2000 she served Bornholm as the Peder Olsen, and was then sold to Moby Lines as the Moby Lally, for whom she remained in service in 2002.

Sally Sky (Sally UK: 1988-97)
Eurotraveller (Sally Direct: 1997-99)

Viking 2 was built in Bremerhaven in 1976, as the Gedser for Gedser-Travemünde Ruten. In 1986, Gedser was chartered to Sally Line UK for service as the Viking 2 between Ramsgate-Dunkirk. In 1988 she was sold to Johnson Line (Silja Line partner) and renamed Sally Sky, remaining on the same route for Sally Line UK. In 1997, Sally Sky was renamed Eurotraveller and entered service between Ramsgate-Oostende for Holyman Sally Ferries, marketed as Sally Direct. Two years later Eurotraveller was chartered, then sold, to TransEuropa Shipping and renamed Larkspur, remaining on Ramsgate-Oostende services.

Sally Star
(Sally UK: 1988-97)

Sally Star was built in Helsinki as the Travemünde, for Gedser-Travemünde Ruten of Denmark, in 1981. In 1986 the company's name was changed to GT-Linien, and Travemünde was renamed Travemünde Link. The company name was changed again in 1987, to GT-Link. In 1988, Travemünde Link was purchased by Rederi AB Gotland, but remaned in service with GT-Ruten. Later in 1988, she was chartered to Sally Ferries for service as the Sally Star between Ramsgate-Dunkirk. In 1997, she was transferred to Silja Line for use between Vaasa and Umeå, under the marketing name Wasa Express, although the name was not officially changed. She entered Destination Gotland service later the same year as Thjelvar. In November 2003, Thjelvar was chartered to Color Line. She entered service as Color Traveller in March 2004 between Larvik and Hirtshals.
