The Yachts of Seabourn

This page is under construction!

Seabourn Cruise Line was formed in 1987 by Atle Brynstead (who subsequently founded SeaDream). The fleet was Seabourn Pride (1988) and Seabourn Spirit (1989). In 1991, 25% of the company was acquired by Carnival. A further 25% followed in 1996, and the remaining stock was bought in 1998. The Sea Goddess I, Sea Goddess II and Royal Viking Sun were transferred from Cunard. They were renamed Seabourn Goddess I, Seabourn Goddess II and Seabourn Sun. In 1999, Queen Odyssey (a sister of Seabourn Pride and Seabourn Spirit which was completed as Royal Viking Queen for Royal Viking Line) was acquired, becoming Seabourn Legend. Seabourn Goddess I and Seabourn Goddess II were later sold to Seabourn founder Atle Brynstead who formed SeaDream Yacht Club. Seabourn Odyssey (and a sister) are building at Mariotti in Genoa and are due in 2009. These will be 32200 gross tons and carry 450 passengers.

Seabourn Goddess I & II were built as Sea Goddess I & II in 1984 & 1985 by Wartsila, Helsinki, for Sea Goddess Cruises of Norway. After a poor season in 1986 they were chartered to Cunard for twelve years. Cunard continued to market them as Sea Goddesses. Following the acquisition of Cunard by Carnival in 1998, the ships were transferred to Carnival's Seabourn Cruise Line, and were renamed Seabourn Goddess I and II. In 2001 they were sold to new company SeaDream Yacht Club and renamed SeaDream I & II

Seabourn Sun was built as Royal Viking Sun in 1988 by Wartsila, Turku, for Royal Viking Line (part of the Kloster Group). She was transferred to Cunard in 1994 when they acquired Royal Viking Line (but only two of the ships). Following the Carnival takeover of Cunard, Royal Viking Sun was transferred to Seabourn, becoming the Seabourn Sun. In 2002 she passed to Carnival-owned Holland America Line as Prinsendam
