Rosa da Fonseca - Seven Seas - Nippon Maru - Athirah

This page is devoted to postcards and photographs of the Brazilian liner Rosa da Fonseca. She was one of two sisters built in Yugoslavia, the other being Anna Nery.

Rosa da Fonseca was built in Yugoslavia in 1962 for Companhia Nacional de Navegacao Costeira Antarquia and used on the Brazilian coastal route, and also cruises. At the same time, two smaller ships were built in Spain, the Princesa Leopoldina and Princesa Isabel. In 1966 Rosa da Fonseca passed to Lloyd Brasileiro, who ran her until 1975 when she was sold to Mitsui-OSK as the Seven Seas. They renamed her Nippon Maru in 1977. Mitsui-OSK sold her in 1992 to PT Kalla Lines of Indonesia, who renamed her Athirah. She was scrapped in India in 1998.
