Ocean Princess - Oceana

Page 3 - Oceana Interiors and Deck Images

This is the third in a series of pages devoted to postcards and photographs of the P&O Princess cruise ship Ocean Princess, transferred to the P&O Cruises fleet in late 2002 as Oceana. The pages in the series are listed below.

Ocean Princess was delivered to Princess Cruises in 2000. She is part of a class of four 77000 gross ton sisterships, the others being Sun Princess, Dawn Princess and Sea Princess. They are 261 metres long, and carry 2100 passengers (2400 maximum), and all were built by Fincantieri in Italy. Ocean Princess was transferred to the P&O fleet as Oceana in 2002. Sistership Sea Princess was transferred to become the Adonia of P&O Cruises in 2003.

Reception and Explorers bar - Atrium Deck 5. Additional computer terminals are available here, although it can get very noisy when "events" are held in the Atrium such as "art" auctions. Evidence of the clutter associated with these is shown in the third picture. Unfortunately, people are prepared to pay huge amounts for this stuff, so the cruise companies must make a fortune out of it.

Corridors past the Yacht & Compass bar (Deck 7). Evidence of the wretched "art" which cruise companies now auction on their ships is all too obvious.

Yacht & Compass bar (Deck 7). Although similar in decor to Anderson's on Oriana/Aurora, this bar has loud live music and dancing in the evenings. There is no equivalent quiet bar on Oceana, and the Yacht & Compass also gets extremely busy. Alternatives are either off the Atrium, and lacking in character, or in the casino, which is a bit like drinking on Blackpool Pier. There are two identical models of New Zealand/Federal SN freighter sisters. With all the models that P&O own, one would think that two different models could have been found.

Standard outside 2-4 berth cabin - Deck 6. Oceana has very few similar cabins with balcony (most are 2-berth only). All 4-berth cabins with balcony had sold within minutes of bookings opening in summer 2002. P&O said at the time that this would be rectified at first major refit.
