Grenå - Kalle (2) - Olau West - Corsica Marina - Kelibia - Nortia - Azzurra

This page is devoted to postcards and photographs of the Grenå-Hundested Lines ferry Grenå, later renamed Kalle. Her sister was the Hundested, delivered in 1964.

Grenå was built in 1964 by Schiffbau-Gesellschaft Unterweser AG, Bremerhaven, for Grenå-Hundested Lines. In 1971 she was transferred to the Juelsminde-Kalundborg Line as Kalle. In 1975 both sisters were sold to Ole Lauritzen for use on his Olau Line service between Sheerness and Vlissingen, as Olau East and Olau West. Olau East was sold to Venezuelan interests within a year (she was scrapped in 1985), but Olau West continued until sold in 1977 to Corsica Ferries as Corsica Marina. She served with them for 14 years.

Corsica Marina was sold in 1990 to Alimar Shipping, Messina, who renamed her Kelibia. She entered service with Rodriguaez between Naples and Trapani. In 1995, Kelibia was chartered to Limadet for a Malaga-Tangier service. From 1996, her owners were described as Kelibia Shipping. From 1996-98 Kelibia was laid up in Tangier, until sold to Carretel Malta Shipping (Eurolines) in 1998 and renamed Scent of Sea. During the summer of 1998 Scent of Sea, ran for Eurolines between La Spezia (Italy) and Bastia (Corsica), but the service was terminated by engine problems in October.

Scent of Sea was sold to Etruria Shipping, Genoa, who took her to Genoa for repairs. From 1999 she was owned by Etruria Ferries, as Nortia and started a service between Livorno and Elba in May 2000. She was withdrawn in August 2000, and Nortia was sold to operator ASC (later Azzurra Line) as their Azzurra between Italy and Dubrovnik.

Corsica Marina
(Corsica Ferries: 1977-90)

Corsica Marina had served as ferry Grenå (1964-71), Kalle (1971-75) and Olau West (1975-77) before purchase by Corsica Ferries. In 1983, Corsica Marina was chartered to Limadet, running between Malaga and Tangier. She returned to Limadet in 1995, whilst sailing as Kelibia. In 1986, Corsica Marina was chartered to Adriatica, running between Brindisi and Igoumenitsa. She was sold in 1990 to Alimar Shipping, Messina, who renamed her Kelibia.

Nortia
(Etruria Ferries: 2000-2001)

Scent of Sea was sold to Etruria Shipping, Genoa, who took her to Genoa for engine repairs. She remained there throughout 1999, but in May 2000 initiated a servive between Livorne and Elba as the Nortia. She was laid up from August 2000, first in Livorno, and then Genoa.

The following photographs of Nortia were taken on 29th July 2000, by Ian Boyle, at Livorno. She was owned by Etruria Ferries, and was scheduled to operate between Livorno and Elba. However, she did not operate on the day that I visited, (more engine problems?), although she was manoeuvred twice by tugs across the harbour and back. I presume that she did not sail again for Etruria, and in 2001 she was sold to ASC, who renamed her Azzurra, for a service from Dubrovnik to Bari and Ortona.
