Ocean Village
Ocean Village was formed in 2003 by P&O Cruises (which soon became part of Carnival), to offer informal cruising to 'people who don't do cruises'. Despite aiming at a younger more active clientele, some reports indicate that their age profile is little younger than that of P&O Cruises. One assumes that the success of AIDA, in which P&O had interests since 1999, had a lot to do with the concept. The initial ship used was the
Ocean Village
, designed as the
Sitmar FairMajesty
and later the
Star Princess
(Princess Cruises) and
Arcadia
(P&O Cruises). Presumably she had some success, since a second ship
Ocean Village Two
was added from 2007. She was also a Sitmar design, but delivered as
Crown Princess
to Princess Cruises. She later served as
Arosa Blu
and
AIDAblu
. In October 2008 it was announced that the two Ocean Village ships would transfer to
P&O Australia
in 2009 (
Ocean Village Two
) and 2010 (
Ocean Village
).

(Ocean Village: 2003-2010)
Ocean Village
was nearing completion in France for Sitmar Cruises, as the
Sitmar FairMajesty
,
when the company was taken over by P&O Princess. She was delivered to Princess Cruises as the
Star Princess
in 1989. In 1997 she was transferred to P&O Cruises as their third
Arcadia
. In 2003,
Arcadia
was transferred again to a new P&O subsidiary as Ocean Village, providing a less formal cruise experience for a younger target audience.
Ocean Village
will move again to
P&O Australia
in 2010 as Carnival wind down the Ocean Village brand.

Ocean Village Two
(Ocean Village: 2007-2009)
Sitmar Cruises
had two ships on order from Fincantieri in Italy when the company was taken over by
P&O/Princess
. These were completed as
Crown Princess
and
Regal Princess
but were essentially Sitmar designs.
Crown Princess
of 1990 is shown on this page. Both ships were intended to transfer to a new P&O Cruises company aimed at the German market called
AROSA
.
Crown Princess
moved in Summer 2002 to be the
Arosa Blu
.
Regal Princess
was due to follow in 2004, but low loadings caused this plan to be abandoned, and in September 2003, Carnival announced that
Arosa Blu
would join the Aida fleet as
AIDAblu
from 2004. Following the start of the extensive new building programme for
AIDA Kreuzfahrten
,
AIDAblu
was transferred again to P&O/Carnival subsidiary Ocean Village in 2007 as the
Ocean Village Two
. She will move again to
P&O Australia
in the autumn of 2009 as Carnival wind down the Ocean Village brand.
