Gruziya
.
Gruziya
was delivered in June 1975, the second of a series of five similar ships in the
Belorussiya Class
. She initially served with the Black Sea Shipping Company in the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea. She was converted into a full time cruise ship at Bremerhaven in 1988. In 1992
Gruziya
started sailing for Odessa America Cruises from Montreal in the summer and St Petersburg in winter. She also sailed from Florida and Mississippi.
In May 1994,
Gruziya
was chartered by the US Military for use at Kingstown, Jamaica, to hold US personnel dealing with the exodus of Haitian refugees. At the end of this charter, her ownership was transferred to the UK, and she received the new name
Odessa Sky
. She was arrested in Montreal in 1995, but travelled to Wilhelmshaven in 1996. Sold to Club Cruise in 1998, she re-entered service as
Club 1
in 1999, soon being renamed
Van Gogh
. She ran various charters including Nouvelles Frontieres, Travelscope, and Metropolis Tur until 2008, when Club Cruise was reported to have called in the administrators.
