Fantasia
Scandinavia - Tzarevetz - Fiesta (1) - Fantasia (2) - Stena Fantasia - Alkmini A - Wawel

This page is devoted to postcards and photographs of the ro-ro ferry Scandinavia, which was converted into the car-ferry Fantasia.

Fantasia was built in 1980 by Kockums Varv Ab, Malmö, for Rederi Ab Nordö, Malmö. She was initially named Scandinavia, and had two sisters Zenobia and Ariadne. In 1981 she was sold to So Mejdunaroden Automobile Transport, Bourgas, Bulgaria (S.O.M.A.T) and renamed Tzarevetz. She entered service with MedLink between Livorno-Iran-Iraq. In 1988 Tzarevetz had a brief charter with DFDS, before being bought, along with sistership Trapezitza, by Sealink (UK). Tzarevetz was chartered to OT-Africa Line and briefly renamed Fiesta (1) (which was eventually used on her sistership). In June 1989 she went to Lloyds Werft, Bremerhaven, for rebuilding as a passenger ship, appearing as the Fantasia (2) in March 1990 on Dover-Calais services. Within 2 months, ownership passed to Stena Line, and her name was changed to Stena Fantasia in December 1990. In March 1998 the Dover-based Stena Line services merged with P&O to form P&O Stena Line. Stena Fantasia was marketed as Fantasia on postcards etc (without change of registered name) until December 1998 when she became the P&OSL Canterbury. In 2002, the P&O Stena Line merger was dissolved, and P&OSL Canterbury became the PO Canterbury of P&O Ferries. She was not part of their long term plans, and was laid up in May 2003, followed by sale to GA Ferries in October 2003. She re-entered service as the Alkmini A in June 2004, between Igoumenitsa and Brindisi. Later in 2004 she was sold to Polferries, and renamed Wawel to replace the Silesia. GA Ferries have in turn purchased the Pride of Provence, and will rename her Alkmini A (2).
