This page is one of a series showing images from a 13
night transatlantic positioning cruise on
Celebrity Eclipse
in April 2012 from Miami to
Southampton.
Celebrity Eclipse
is a Solstice-class cruise ship, operated by
Celebrity Cruises. She is the
sister ship of
Celebrity
Solstice and
Celebrity Equinox,
which entered service in November 2008 and July 2009, respectively.
Celebrity Eclipse
measures 122,000 gross tons and carries 2,852 passengers (double occupancy)
plus crew.
Two further ships Celebrity Silhouette (Meyer yard number 679) and
Celebrity Reflection (Meyer yard number 691) were delivered
in 2011 and 2012.
Celebrity Eclipse sailed
from Southampton during Summer 2010 offering itineraries in the
Mediterranean and Northern Europe. She returned to sailing from
Southampton in Summers 2011 and 2102, sailing from Miami in the winters.
In response to the shutdown of UK airspace due to the eruption of Iceland's
Eyjafjallajökull volcano, the newly completed
Celebrity Eclipse was used to
rescue 2000 British tourists stranded in Spain as "an act of goodwill" by
the owners. The ship departed from Southampton for Bilbao on April 21, and
returned on April 23. Celebrity Eclipse
official maiden voyage was on April 29, 2010, departing Southampton to Cobh,
Ireland.

Miami Beach - Fontainebleau
The Fontainebleau Miami Beach or the Fontainebleau
Hotel is one of the most historically and architecturally significant hotels
on Miami Beach. Opened in 1954 and designed by Morris Lapidus, it was
considered the most luxurious hotel on Miami Beach, and is thought to be the
most significant building of Lapidus' career. The Fontainebleau Miami Beach
is situated on oceanfront Collins Avenue in the heart of Millionaire's Row
and is currently owned by Fontainebleau Resorts. Fronting the Atlantic
Ocean, the 1504-room resort’s most distinguishing features include two new
towers; 12 restaurants and bars; a 40,000-square-foot (3,700 m2) spa with
mineral-rich water therapies and co-ed swimming pools; and oceanfront
poolscape featuring a free-form pool shaped as a re-interpretation of
Lapidus’ signature bow-tie design. The local pronunciation of the hotel's
name is the Americanized "fountain blue" rather than the French
pronunciation of the word.[

Miami Beach - Eden Roc Hotel
The Eden Roc Renaissance Hotel Miami Beach is a
resort and spa located at 4525 Collins Avenue on Miami Beach, Florida. It
was designed by Morris Lapidus, in the Miami Modern style, and opened in
1956. The Eden Roc has been a favourite of distinguished guests from
politicians to Hollywood's top stars (plus the odd gangster).

The Miami Metromover is a free mass transit automated
people mover train system operated by Miami-Dade Transit in Miami, Florida,
United States. Metromover serves Downtown Miami, Brickell, Park West and
Omni neighbourhoods. Metromover connects directly with Metrorail at
Government Center and Brickell stations. It originally began service to the
Downtown/Inner Loop on April 17, 1986, and was later expanded with the Omni
and Brickell Loop extensions on May 26, 1994.
The Metromover serves primarily as a fast and easy
way to travel within the greater Downtown Miami neighbourhoods. The system
is composed of three loops and 21 stations. The stations are located
approximately two blocks away from each other, and connect near all major
buildings and places in Downtown. Today, the Metromover serves as a vital
part of Downtown life, and with the rapid population growth in Downtown, has
grown quickly in usage and popularity. It has nearly doubled in ridership in
the last decade, growing from 14,952 passengers per day in 1999 to 31,100 by
October 2011. Out of only three downtown people movers in the United States,
the other two being the Jacksonville Skyway and the Detroit People Mover,
the Metromover is by far the most successful, the only completed system of
the three, and considered to be a catalyst for downtown development.
Metromover currently uses a fleet of 17 Adtranz C-100 vehicles, built by
Adtranz predecessor AEG-Westinghouse in 1992, and 12 Bombardier Innovia APM
100 vehicles that were delivered during the summer and fall of 2008. These
newer vehicles replaced the first 12 C-100 cars which were built by
Westinghouse Electric in 1984, and include a more aerodynamic design, as
well as an onboard CCTV system.Deliveries of an additional 17 cars from
Bombardier Transportation began in July 2010. (ref: Wikipedia)
