America (1)
(1921-1931)
 
America (1) was built as the Amerika of Hamburg America Line (Hapag) in 1905. In 1917 she was taken over by the US and used as the Army transport America. In 1921 America passed to United States Lines, but was laid up in 1931. She was re-activated in 1940 and converted into the troopship Edmund B. Alexander. She was scrapped in 1958.

George Washington
(1921-1931)
 
George Washington was built for Norddeutsche Lloyd (NDL) in 1908. In 1917, she was taken over from NDL by the US Army, retaining her appropriate US name. In 1921, George Washington passed to to United States Lines. She was laid up in 1932, but reactivated as a troopship in 1941. In 1947 George Washington burned out at New York, after which she was laid up at Baltimore. In 1951 she again caught fire and was scrapped.

America was completed in 1940. After war service as West Point, she re-entered service with US Lines in 1946. She was bought by Chandris in 1964, operating on the service to Australia from 1965 to 1977. After an unsuccessful attempt to run out of New York for Venture Cruises, again named America, she returned to Chandris as Italis, but was laid up again in 1979.
