Statendam (5) (1992- )
 
Holland America Line merged with Carnival Cruises in 1988. Two tentative orders for new large ships of 65000grt (designed to compete with Carnival) were cancelled, and an order was placed with Fincantieri in Italy for three sisters known as the S-Class. Theoriginal intention was that all would have names beginning with 'S', but this was changed and they emerged as Statendam (5), Maasdam (5), and Ryndam (3). A fourth sister was also ordered, becomimg the Volendam (4).
 
Statendam (5) was delivered in 1992.
She is 55451 gross tons, 219 metres long and carries 1266 passengers (1516 max).
Engines: 2 x 8640 + 3 x 5760 = 34560Kw
Her service speed is 20 knots, and she achieved 22.3 knots on trials.
 
 
This is the initial HAL official card ST13002 of Statendam (5).

A variation of the official card above of Statendam (5), with name blanked out.
This was issued as a generic card for Statendam, Maasdam and Ryndam.
The date of issue was around 1995 before the delivery of Veendam.

Maasdam (5) was the second Statendam-Class ship, delivered in 1993.

Ryndam (3) was the third Statendam-Class ship, delivered in 1994.

Rotterdam (6) (1997- )
 
Rotterdam (6) was the first of a new class ship, delivered in 1997. Her code name during building was Fastdam, since she is over 50% more powerful than the Statendam class to achieve a service speed of 22.5 knots. Additional commercial postcards and photographs are available on this link.
 
She is 62000 gross tons, 237 metres long and carries 1318 passengers (1668 max).
Engines: 5 x 11520 Kw = 57600
Her service speed is 22.5 knots, and she was contracted to achieve 25.0 knots maximum.

Volendam is 60906 gross tons, 238m long, and has a double-occupancy capacity of 1440 passengers, looked after by 647 crew.

Prinsendam (2002 - )
 
Prinsendam was built in 1988 as the Royal Viking Sun for Royal Viking Line.

Zuiderdam (2002 - )
 
Zuiderdam was the first of the Vista-Class ships for HAL, entering service in 2002. Zuiderdam is 84000grt, 290m long, and carries 1848 passengers (2388 max). She was the largest ship in the HAL fleet when built, but was joined by further ships in the same class. The class consists of Zuiderdam (1) (2002), Oosterdam (1) (2003), Westerdam (2004) and Noordam (4) (2006). Eurodam (2008) and a 2010 newbuilding are to a modified design.

Eurodam is the first of a modified Vista-Class design in the Holland America fleet. She has additional upper decks and a higher gross tonnage than previous HAL ships of the class. The previous HAL Vista-class ships are Zuiderdam (1) (2002), Oosterdam (1) (2003), Westerdam (2004) and Noordam (4) (2006). Eurodam has a sister building for 2010 delivery.

Nieuw Amsterdam is a sister of Eurodam and the sixth Vista-Class ship in the Holland America fleet. She is higher in gross tonnage the first four HAL ships of the class. The previous HAL Vista-class ships are Zuiderdam (1) (2002), Oosterdam (1) (2003), Westerdam (2004), Noordam (4) (2006) and Eurodam (2008).
