Statendam (5) (1992- )
Holland America Line merged with Carnival Cruises in 1988. Two tentative orders for new large ships of 65000grt (designed to compete with Carnival) were cancelled, and an order was placed with Fincantieri in Italy for three sisters known as the S-Class. Theoriginal intention was that all would have names beginning with 'S', but this was changed and they emerged as
Statendam (5), Maasdam (5)
, and
Ryndam (3)
. A fourth sister was also ordered, becomimg the
Volendam (4)
.

was delivered in 1992.
She is 55451 gross tons, 219 metres long and carries 1266 passengers (1516 max).
Engines: 2 x 8640 + 3 x 5760 = 34560Kw
Her service speed is 20 knots, and she achieved 22.3 knots on trials.

, since she is over 50% more powerful than the
Statendam
