Western Belle 1935



This page is devoted to postcards and photographs of the Plymouth excursion vessel Western Belle, now working on the Thames from Hampton Court.

Western Belle was built by Fellows of Great Yarmouth for the Millbrook Steam Boat & Trading Company in 1935. She replaced the Whitsand Castle (ex-Kenwith Castle). Western Belle was primarily used on the ferry services across the River Tamar from Plymouth to Millbrook in her early years, though mainly ran Plymouth Dockyard trips in later years, along with Devon Belle and Eastern Belle. Western Belle passed to Dart Pleasure Craft in 1980, and was transferred to the Dartmouth-Kingswear ferry. She was sold in 2000, appearing on the Thames for Chris Cruises of Hampton Court, where she runs charters only. Western Belle was sold again in 2008, and travelled to Maryport for restoration. She was restored in 2010 for service on Ullswater, retaining her original name.

The Whitsand Castle (ex-Kenwith Castle) was replaced in the Millbrook Steam Boat & Trading Company fleet by the new Western Belle in 1935. Western Belle was primarily used on the ferry in her early years, though mainly ran the Dockyard trips in later, along with Devon Belle and Eastern Belle. Western Belle was built by Fellows of Great Yarmouth. Western Belle passed to Dart Pleasure Craft in 1980, and was transferred to the Dartmouth-Kingswear ferry. She was sold in 2000, appearing on the Thames for Chris Cruises of Hampton Court in 2005. In 2008 she was sold to Ullswater Steamers for renovation for use on Lake Ullswater. Western Belle
(Dart Pleasure Craft: 1980-2000)

Western Belle passed to Dart Pleasure Craft in 1980, and was transferred to the Dartmouth-Kingswear ferry. She was sold in 2000, appearing on the Thames for Chris Cruises of Hampton Court in 2005.

Western Belle
(Chris Cruises: 2000-2008)

Western Belle passed to Dart Pleasure Craft in 1980, and was transferred to the Dartmouth-Kingswear ferry. She was sold in 2000, appearing on the Thames for Chris Cruises of Hampton Court in 2005. Western Belle was sold again in 2008, and travelled to Maryport for restoration for service on Ullswater.
