Stena Timer - Jaguar - Stena Timer - Loreto

This page is devoted to postcards and photographs of the Stena Line ship Stena Timer, which since 1981 has been the Loreto of Mexican company Transbordadores (later Sematur).

Loreto was built as the Stena Timer in 1977. She was one of a series of Stena ro-ro ferries built on the Danube in Austria, and completed after being towed downstream. She was delivered as the Jaguar, for charter use on P&O's Pandoro service between Fleetwood and Larne, but was renamed Stena Timer in 1978 at the end of the Pandoro charter. She subsequently served under this name on the routes Göteborg-Kiel (Stena Line), Stranraer-Larne (Sealink charter) and Holyhead-Dun Laoghaire (Sealink charter). She was sold to Mexico in 1981, and renamed Loreto, initially owned by state-owned Secretaria de Communicaciones Y Transportes Sevicio de Transbordadores Direction General (Transbordadores). Loreto entered Mexican service between La Paz and Topolobambo. In 1989, ownership of Transbordadores passed to Grupo Sematur de California (Sematur). In April 2002, Loreto was laid up in Mazatlan. Loreto was sold to the United Arab Emirates in April 2004, and will be renamed Ajman 2.
