Gustav Vasa (1) was built in 1965 by Werft Nobiskrug, Rendsburg for Lion Ferry Ab of Halmstad. Her sisterships were Prins Bertil and Kronprins Carl Gustav, and B&I ferries Munster, Leinster and Innisfallen were developments of the design. Gustav Vasa (1) entered service on charter to SJ (Statens Järnvägar - Swedish State Railways) between Trelleborg-Travemünde, later Malmö-Trelleborg-Travemünde, and from 1968 Malmö-Travemünde. In 1971 Gustav Vasa (1) was sold to Polskie Linijskie Oceanica, but remained on the Malmö-Travemünde route. From 1972 this service was run by Rederi Ab Öresund. When the charter ended in 1973, Gustav Vasa (1) was renamed Wawel and put into service between Ystad - Swinoujscie. Ownership passed to Polska Zeluga Baltycka, operating as Polferries, in 1977. Wawel was sold in by Polferries in 1988, and subsequently served as Calypso, Cefalonian Sky, Europrinces, Lucinda, Calypso II, Aulona, and Eurofast on various eastern Mediterranean routes, inculding Brindisi-Albania from 2000.

Wawel (Polferries: 1973-88 )
 
In 1971 Gustav Vasa (1) was sold to Polskie Linijskie Oceanica, but remained on the Malmö-Travemünde route. From 1972 this service was run by Rederi Ab Öresund. When the charter ended in 1973, Gustav Vasa (1) was renamed Wawel and put into service between Ystad - Swinoujscie. Ownership passed to Polska Zeluga Baltycka, operating as Polferries, in 1977. Wawel was sold in by Polferries in 1988, and subsequently had a varied career as Calypso, Cefalonian Sky, Europrinces, Lucinda, Calypso II, Aulona, and Eurofast on various eastern Mediterranean routes, inculding Brindisi-Albania from 2000.
 
Initially owned in 1988 by Sea Venture Cruises, Nassau as Calypso, she was intended for use as a casino ship in the Caribbean, but was chartered to Seven Islands S.A. Shipping and Tourism for service between Patras-Kefalonia-Paxi-Igoumenitsa-Corfu-Brindisi. In 1989, Calypso was sold to Sky Maritime Ltd, Valletta, as the Cefalonian Sky, and entered service for Lefkatidis Lines between Ancona-Corfu-Igoumenitsa-Paxos-Patras. By 1992 she was registered for Amalinda Shipping, Panama as the Europrinces, and began a Piraeus-Turkey service in 1993. Part of 1994 was spent laid up at Falmouth, but later in the year she was purchased by Lucinda Maritime, Valletta, and renamed Lucinda for a Brindisi-Igoumenitsa service. Lucinda was renamed in Calypso II 1996, and then Aulona for a Bari-Cesme charter with Stern Lines. Still in 1996, Aulona was chartered to Vefa Lines for an Italy-Greece-Turkey service. In 1997 Aulona returned to Stern Lines, before a lay up and sale to New Fortune Shipping, Panama. In 1998 Aulona returned to service with Endeavour Shipping (VEFA Line) between Patras-Durres, before a further two years laid up. In 2000 she appeared in service for White Cliff Shipping as Eurofast between Brindisi and Albania.
