Ibex - Norsea - Norsky - Ibex - European Envoy - Envoy
This page is devoted to postcards and photographs of the ferry
Ibex
, in 2005 running as
Envoy
for Nedlines between Harwich and Ijmuiden. Her sister was due to be named
Puma
, but the became
Tipperary
for
B+I Line
.
Ibex
was built in 1979 in Japan, entering service in May on the Pandoro serviuce between Fleetwood and Larne. In 1984, she received the name
Norsea (1)
, and was transferred to sister P&O company
North Sea Ferries
for service between Ipswich and Rotterdam (Europoort). In 1986,
Norsea (1)
was renamed
Norsky (2)
. She returned to the Irish Sea in May 1995, on the Pandoro route between Liverpool and Dublin. In October 1995,
Norsky (2)
reverted to her original name
Ibex
.
Ibex
was rebuilt in 1996 with and additional trailer deck and extended passenger accommodation, which did not improve her already ungainly appearance.
Ibex
remained on the Liverpool-Dublin route, and was transferred to P&O European Ferries Irish Sea in January 1998, receiving the name
European Envoy
.
In 2001,
European Envoy
moved to the Mostyn-Dublin route, which was sold to Stena Line in April 2004. She was renamed
Envoy
and immedietely laid up, followed by sale to Trond A Kittelsen Shipping A/S, Norway, soon afterwards. They chartered her to Kystlink A/S, for service between Langesund and Hirtshals, followed by sale to Kystlink in October 2004. Passenger capacity was again extended, but service with Kystlink ended in June 2005. There followed a brief charter back to P&O, for Liverpool-Dublin service, followed by another brief charter to Transrussia on a Lübeck-Mukran-St Petersburg-Baltijsk-Lübeck circuit. In September 2005
Envoy
opened a new service between Ijmuiden and Harwich on charter to Nedlines.
