Gaiety
was built as the
Oxford (1)
for
Salter Brothers
by Edwin Clarke and Company of Brimscombe in 1889. She was sold to J.T.Phelps of Putney in 1921 when replaced by the larger
Oxford (2)
. She was renamed
Gaiety
. Ownership became Bowers & Phelps from 1927-28, and she later served at Evesham (from mid-1970s or earlier) on the River Avon for Avon Bridge C & B Enterprises. She returned to the Thames when bought by
French Brothers
for restoration, but they restored the larger
Nuneham
instead.
Gaiety
remains in their ownership, but is out of service at Windsor.

Spirit of Freedom on Avon
(Avon Leisure: 2003- )
Formed by Dave and Geraldine in December 2003, Avon Leisure Cruises Ltd operates a 70’ luxury steel cruiser named
Spirit of Freedom on Avon,
licensed to carry 53 passengers and crew and operates throughout the year for Business or Pleasure. She is centrally heated, with onboard toilet facilities (including disabled & baby changing), licensed bar, galley and low level viewing windows. During its first year of operation in 2004, the company were delighted to receive the Gold Certificate in the Heart of England Tourism for All Awards and Bronze winners in 2005.
