Elba Express

This page is devoted to the fast ferry Elba Express.

Elba Express had been built as a fast freight ferry in 1987 by Westamarin A/S, Mandal, Norway. She originally served as Anne Lise with Gods-Trans A/S, of Hønefoss (Norway). She was rebuilt by Oskarshamns Varv AB as a passenger ferry and served as Madikera in the Caribbean. As rebuilt she could carry 325 passengers and 40 cars at 31 knots. In 1995 Madikera was sold to Elba Ferries (part of Corsica Ferries group) and renamed Elba Express. They were trying to compete with Moby Lines and state-owned Torema on the busy Piombino-Portoferraio route between the Italian mainland and the Isle of Elba. The venture was obviously not a success, and Elba Express was sold to Emeraude Lines in 1999, for services between St Malo and the Channel Islands as Solidor 4. In 2004, was sold to Iscomar for service between Ibiza and Formentera as Pitiusa Nova.
