Stena Danica (1) - Lucy Maud Montgomery - Lady Clare I
 
 
This page is devoted to postcards and photographs of the Stena Line vessel Stena Danica (1) of 1965. Her sistership was the Stena Nordica (1).
 
Stena Danica (1) was built in France by Ateliers et Chantiers de la Seine-Maritime, LeTrait. She entered service with Stena Line between Göteborg/Stenpiren-Frederikshavn in 1965. Stena Danica was the first purpose-built Stena Line car ferry, and indtroduced the "Stena" naming system.
 
During the winter of 1967-68, Stena Danica was chartered to Townsend Car Ferries for Dover-Zeebrugge services. In 1969 Stena Danica was sold to Canadian National Railways and renamed Lucy Maud Montgomery. She was sused initially between Cape Tormentine and Port Borden, and from 1971 between North Sydney and Port aux Basques. In 1975, Lucy Maud Montgomery was chartered to Cooperative de Transport et Aeriens (C.T.M.A.). She entrered service between Grindstone, Magdalen Islands and Souris, Prince Edward Island. In 1977, the service was taken over by the Canadian Ministry of Transport. Lucy Maud Montgomery was laid up in 1998, and briefly renamed Hull 209. She was sold in 1999, with the inytention of running gambling cruises out of Key West, but she remained laid up in Ket West under the name Lady Clare I.
