Club Med Cruises

This page is devoted to postcards and photographs of Club Med Cruises.

Club Méditerranée, commonly known as Club Med, is a French corporation of vacation resorts found in many parts of the world, usually in exotic locations. It is seen by many as having started the all-inclusive resort concept (although Frenchman's Cove Resort in Portland, Jamaica is regarded as the world's first all-inclusive resort). They later diversified into charters of cruise ships, and when Holland America subsidiary Windstar Sail Cruises decided not to pursue orders for two motor-sail-yachts under construction by Société Nouvelle des Ateliers et Chantiers du Havre, they were assisted in buying them by the French government. They were named Club Med 1 and Club Med 2. Windstar Sail Cruises later purchased Club Med 1 and renamed her with her intended name of Wind Surf.

Club Med 1 (1989-1998)

Club Med 1 was ordered by Windstar Sail Cruises, along with a second sister, in 1988 as an enlarged version of their existing ships. She was due to be named Wind Surf. However the order was not pursued when Holland America acquired the Windstar Sail Cruises. The sisters were completed by Société Nouvelle des Ateliers et Chantiers du Havre for Club Med as Club Med 1 and Club Med 2. In 1998, Windstar acquired the sail cruiser Club Med 1 from Club Med Cruises, and rechristened her with her original planned name of Wind Surf. Club Med 2 remains in service with Club Med.
